Fun Stuff

For Christmas '94, I went on a trip to visit family in Georgia, and I decided to stop by a friend's house who works for IBM there. He gave me an IBM Simon phone as a gift!

It runs a version of ROM-DOS and is basically a small tablet merged with a mobile phone.

For Christmas '93, I was gifted a Panasonic R.E.A.L. 3DO FZ-1 (what a mouthful!), which was supposed to be the "next generation of home video game consoles", but honestly I wasn't that impressed with the graphics.

The lackluster games available at launch (or game, since there was only one) didn't give me a great first impression either. Ironically, the only launch title was named Crash 'N Burn...

As a parting gift from Sho Graphics in mid-1991, I received a Sony NWS-3250 portable, essentially a full UNIX workstation in a laptop form factor.

Although I could use it instead of my Atari Portfolio on-the-go, the 3250 is really expensive (and heavy!) and I wouldn't want to drop it :-), so I mostly use it for running graphical games and demos at home.

On my 19th birthday during the autumn of 1988, a family friend gifted me a Sharp X68000 ACE-HD computer in black, imported from Japan.

At the time, it was considered arcade-spec hardware, but by today's standards it would be considered low-end. I still find it fun to revisit games for it from time to time.
